Where Your Opt-In Form Goes - And Why
Where Your Opt-In Form Goes – And Why.
Think about what is on your own mind when you first visit any website. Why did you click the link in the first place? You didn’t
click it because you wanted some more e-mail and you sure weren’t planning to join an opt-in list that would assure that you got more email. You
most likely weren’t looking for yet another newsletter. No!
You were looking for some information most likely. Information that would solve a pressing problem or answer a question for you
that would make you look better or feel better. You might even have been searching for a way to enhance the fun you have when you are engaging in
your favorite sport or activity. Or maybe you’re just looking to satisfy a curiosity. But you sure weren’t looking for more email.
Take note! The visitors to your website aren’t looking for more email either. They are visiting your site because they think that
they will find whatever kind of information it is that they are looking for on your site. So getting them to opt-in once they get to your site is
up to you. First thing is to be sure they even SEE your opt-in form, no matter which page of your site they arrive on.
It is a bit amazing when I find opt-in boxes at the bottom of a page. Website visitors have notoriously short attention spans.
They rarely scroll all the way to the bottom of any page. Another amazing thing is to find the need to go through several pages before there is
even an opt-in box anywhere on a page.
People aren’t going to look for an opt-in box. Opt-in boxes should be placed in the upper corner of every page on a site. The
upper corner is the first place that the eye naturally goes on any kind of page and you certainly want your website visitors to be able to easily
see and fill in your opt-in box.
